What is digital printing?
Digital printing is a printing technique using digital processes and whose main objective is to be able to use a printing press.
The definition of digital printing is as follows: “The production, directly on a printer, in their final version, formatted documents by computer processing”.
Digital printing has many advantages. The first being the ability to customize documents more easily through variable data management.

- Perfect for printing small quantities
- Print on demand and in high quality
- Fast and easy setup
- Less chemical waste, and reduced waste paper
- Ink or toner creates a thin film, that doesn’t penetrate the material
Different types of digital printing
With digital printing, there are two main types of printing: Inkjet or toner
Inkjet
- This type of printing is a method of ink projection on paper, which is generally loaded onto rolls, allowing high-speed printing.
- An inkjet printer can print up to 500 images per minute (color) and up to 100 and 300 m / min depending on the models.

Toner:
- A toner cartridge contains powder composed of fine particles of plastics and other resins. Toner is deposited on the media electrostatically and then “cooked” to become permanent.
- Toner cartridges deliver high-quality prints, whatever the type of print (text or image). Printers using toner cartridges can be either color or monochrome. Toner cartridges are more expensive than inkjet printer cartridges. However, they have a longer life-time than cartridges for inkjet printers.

Digital printing and colors
Firstly, let’s remember the two basic ways to create a colour gamut
RVB (red, green, blue)
Used for colors on computers and TVs
CMYK (Cyan, magenta, Yellow)
Used for printing colors, for documents such as business card, brochures, in four-color printing
To obtain printable colors on a digital printer, it’s necessary to consider the following conditions:
The printer must be calibrated and adjusted: Source profile, ICC profile of the chosen process, included in the files or supplied by the customer; destination profile, press profile, ICC profile of the selected process; absolute colorimetric rendering, white paper)
An analogue or digital Cromalin (test files) will serve as a guide to get an overview of the final printing. This will also allow you to set the printer according to the desired result.
